Description
14th-15th century AD. A shallow glazed ceramic bowl with basal ring, chamfered rim, painted blue petal outlines to the exterior, band of leaves and tendrils to the interior with central floral motif; numbered collection stickers to base. 870 grams, 24cm (9 1/2"). Property of a North London gentleman; formerly with Butterfields Auction. In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau.
