Description
South Italy, ca. 350 BC. In the typology of ancient Greek pottery, the kernos (Greek: κÎÏνος or κÎÏχνος, plural kernoi) is a pottery ring tray to which are attached several small vessels for holding offerings, four in this case, each with a separate lid. The vase is decorated in the red-figure technique with wave and dash patterns, the sides impressed with Silenus masks to handles. A choice and rare ceremonial vessel.
