Gent’s, size 18, 18k gold filled, pendant wound and lever set, savonette, hunting case pocket watch, grade 70 grade, BW Raymond marked, made by the Elgin National Watch company, Elgin, Illinois, circa 1894.

Case: 56mm diameter, four leaf, 18k gold filled, hunting case pocket watch with fluted gilt suppressed ball pendant placed at the three position (savonette) opposite the case hinge. The back cover having an engraved rosette at the cover center with three vertical arrows in guilloche on the majority of the cover which has small foliate engraved designs around the periphery of the cover. The inside of the cover is marked for B & B (Bates & Bacon, watch case makers), the Favorite model, warranted for the gilt finish to last 25 years and the case number 11065944.

Dial: Double tiered, triple sunk, white enameled dial with roman hours, closed minute track, red Arabic markers placed every five minutes around the dial circumference, subsidiary seconds dial @6, recessed dial center marked, Elgin’ and steel Fleur de Lys hour hand and steel spade minute hand (one is replaced). Movement: a gilt full plate size 18 movement, the grade 70, BW Raymond model, made by the Elgin National watch Company of Elgin Illinois. This example has a serial number of 5048462 indicating manufacture in 1894 in a run of 1000 such movements, each with 17 jewels, pendant wound and lever set for hunting cases, going barrel safety pinion, quick train, Moseley regulator, bimetallic balance wheel, adjusted for position, temperature and of railroad grade for 1894.
Condition: Case - Fair to good with moderate wear throughout. Dial – Good with one replaced hand, dirt and smidges in the dial center and sub dial region. Movement – Very good and considered original to this case, genuine and functional.
