Description
The set of four matching plates have a running border of peonies and scalloped edges. The central well has a sinuous dragon in the clouds with a central pearl of wisdom. The designs are painted in iron red, green over glaze and gold gilt. The base glaze is smooth and shiny with a bright white appearance.
The plates have a shallow rounded unglazed foot. The base is glazed and you can see a sager mark in the base center. There are no porcelain marks or labels.
MEASUREMENTS
Each plate measures 8 ½” (21.6 cm) diameter x 1” (2.5 cm) tall. Total weight 2 lb 3.0 oz (990 g)
CONDITION
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. All four ring true. The ridges in the central well show wear. There is wear to the iron red glaze small spots here and there, and much of the gilding has worn off. The plates still have a good entire look for the age.
This set would show off well as a collection. The hand work would add substance, age and richness to your décor.
