This one of a kind collection is straight from the home of Republic studio head, Herbert Yates and his wife, silver screen goddess, Vera Ralston.
Yates was the founder and president of Republic Pictures and had western stars John Wayne, Gene Autry, and Roy Rogers under contract. Between the years 1935 and 1959. Republic, under Yates' leadership, made 956 feature films and 849 movie serial chapters, some of which are considered classics. He gave first roles to Gene Autry and Roy Rodgers and launched many other huge stars of that era.
He leaves behind a treasure trove of memorabilia, awards, scrapbooks, and original photos from the Golden Age of Hollywood. (see our other listings for some of his movie star wife's personal red carpet designer fashions and memorabilia.)
This extensive lot includes :
- Over 30 framed awards and accolades including military, government and Hollywood commemorations.
- Movie poster and matching airplane model for box-office hit "The Wild Blue Yonder'.
- A large Republic Production poster signed by the stars of Republic. Comes with a certificate of authenticity from 1977.
- A US Navy bicorn hat embroidered with 'Grand Commodore Herbert J Yates'
- A bronze birthday award presented to Mr. Yates by the Republic Association in 1957
- A Republic Pictures Latin America Conference commemorative tray.
- A large commissioned portrait of Mr. Yates in a gilded gold frame.
- Dozens of framed photographs of Mr. Yates and well known Hollywood stars of that era.
- Various monogrammed personal effects such as a table top Dunhill lighter, leather bound flask, and sterling hair brushes.
- Two monogramed engraved walking sticks
