Letter from KZ Dachau dated 1. May. 1936 signed by DerSchutzhaftlagerfuhrer Jakob Weiseborn ( The protective custody camp leader) SS-Obersturmfuhrer.Concentration Camp Dachau Dept. III Dachau on the 1st May 1936Memorandum.With immediate effect, inmates ordered to work must be reported to theprotective custody camp by noon for the following day.The protective custody camp leader Weiseborn SS-Obersturmfuhrer.Jakob Weiseborn (22 March 1892 in Frankfurt – 20 January 1939 inFlossenbürg) was a German SS-Sturmbannführer (major) and the firstcommandant of Flossenbürg concentration camp.Jakob Weiseborn served in the navy for 18 years. He joined the NSDAP (no.753,119) and SS (no. 17,063). After the Machtergreifung, he was firstemployed in the guard unit at Dachau concentration camp as of January 1935and, following a disciplinary transfer, at Esterwegen concentration campfrom the end of 1935. In April 1936, Weiseborn took over the post ofSchutzhaftlagerführer from Karl d'Angelo in Dachau. From late 1936 untilJuly 1937, he served as Schutzhaftlagerführer in Sachsenhausen concentrationcamp and then as second Schutzhaftlagerführer in Buchenwald concentrationcamp. A Buchenwald survivor recalls that he "often punched inmates in theface or kicked them in the belly with his boot." At the prisoner barracks inBuchenwald the following sentence was written: "In his anger God createdHauptsturmführer Weiseborn.Weiseborn, a chronic alcoholic, became the first commandant of Flossenbürgconcentration camp beginning in May 1938 and remained so until January 1939.On 20 January 1939 in Flossenbürg, Weiseborn committed suicide by drinkingpoison in his room, perhaps due to an investigation of his embezzlement atBuchenwald.This Typed letter measures 175mm x 125mm
