Photographer: Dennis Stock (American, 1924 - 2010) - American photographer and journalist, member of the Magnum photo agency for 6 decades. Best known for his photographs of the 1950's - 1960's American jazz scene and the now iconic images of a young James Dean on the cusp of stardom. Stock met James Dean in 1955, a few months before Dean's untimely death. They became fast friends and Stock undertook a series of photos of the actor in Hollywood, Dean's hometown in Indiana, and in New York City. Dean invited Stock to come to his hometown and spend time with his family and friends giving Stock complete freedom to shoot as he pleased. This original vintage photogravure is from those intimate shoots which captured the young Dean in candid and relaxed moments away from the rigors of the movie world. Subject: Actor James Dean spending a quiet moment in an empty classroom at Fairmount High School from which he was expelled as a student.
