Description

CONTEMPORARY IRON GARDEN SCULPTURE/MOBILE H 62" W 42" A wonderfully creative planetary inspired sculpture that turns with the wind. Provenance: From the garden of the Estate of Jack Faxon, Michigan Senator and creator of the Michigan Council for the Arts.

Condition

This work was never treated or given a protective coating that has failed. The flash rust is intentional. Comprised of a mixture of found objects and steel (new and scrap) that has been cut and formed to add visual interest. There is, obviously, flash rust all over. However, the even nature of some of the flash rust infers some elements could be COR-TEN. Some structural elements are rebar and therefore, could not be COR-TEN. The only area with significant pitting and loss due to corrosion is the solid circular piece within the hoop on the upper side. There does not appear to be corrosion caused by salts as Michigan does not have high levels of atmospheric salts and this work was nowhere near road salts.
