Item Details

Description

Central Europe, Switzerland, ca. 1872 CE. A captivating wooden music box with a floral inlay and the metal cylinder mechanism within. The rectangular box opens on a hinged lid to reveal the levers and comb cylinder. The right side contains two switch levers, and the left has a large arm lever. A glass door opens and protects the cylinder comb from dust, but allows the viewer to watch the mesmerizing turning of the cylinder as the music plays. This music box still functions, and 8 harmonious songs from well-known composers, including Strauss, Mandelson and Rossini are captured on the cylinder. The original tune card is taped to the interior of the lid. Size: 22.25" L x 8.75" W x 5.5" H (56.5 cm x 22.2 cm x 14 cm)
