Description
An antique brass engraved conical bore from the early 1900s. The piece is intricately engraved along the horn. Within the engraving it reads CONICAL BORE PATENTED E.A. COUTURIER SOLE MAKERS LAPORT, INO. The side of the piece reads PAT. SEPT. 28, 18. OTHER PATS PENDING. M 1820. Parts are moveable, not tested for working condition. Piece is weighty. Piece has evident wear. Approx. 6L x 19W in. Some history: E. A. Couturier was born in 1869 in Poughkeepsie, NY and began playing the cornet at the age of 14. He began playing professionally in the 1880s and began composing for band in 1890. In 1907, he began working at the Frank Holton Company as a promoter of their instruments. In 1913, he received his first US patent for a more conical bore cornet. In 1916, with 2 partners, Couturier bought the derelict William Seidel Band Instrument Company and renamed it.
