A rare and notable translation of Mexia's Roman History. A leading Spanish Renaissance humanist, Mexia (1497-1551) is best known for his Silva de Varia Leccion, one of the best selling humanist books of the 16th century. The tooling on this binding resembles that used on books from the library of Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales (1594-1612).
Ownership inscription on title dated 1833.
Condition
Some wear to boards, title page with some loss to lower right border (not affecting text), a few stains and instances of worming; lacking first and final blanks; very good.
