19th Century Tortoise Shell Double Compartment Tea Caddy, canted corners, bookmatched shells to the front panel, c1860 tortoise-shell panels divided with silver string inlay, brass ball feet and finial. This item was acquired in the 1990s to early 2000s from Elton John's estate, handled by his then boyfriend and associate John Scott. Scott was also the director of Elton John's AIDS Foundation. Pictured are one of several inventory lists and checks (not included). Measures Approx., 7 x 4 x 6 inches
Condition
In fair to good but stable condition. A restored break to the top back panel that you can see in image #3. One of the silver seams is half missing to one side. On the left hinge on the back, there is a notable hairline. There is a subtle hairline across the top middle panel. Flaking and loss to silver foil interior. No key
