Description
A fine example of a Chinese Canton export japanned games box, gilt decorated with scenes of Chiense Life, and raised on lion-paw feet: incorporating a substantial collection of engraved mother o’ pearl gaming counters. Very nice example indeed. Made in Canton- which was the major trading and manufacturing port allowed under the Chinese during the first half of the 19th century- specifically for export to the West, and primarily Great Britain. Good quality mother o’ pearl counters which are eminently collectable. Four pull out trays, 8 lidded boxes, and mother of pearl gaming pieces- 76 rectangular pieces, 39 round pieces, 20 square pieces.
Condition
Several game pieces are chipped , there is a minor crack in the box lid (see photos).
