January 7, Estate Auction
Painters of distinction from many lands set the stage for Michaan's first monthly Estate Auction of 2017. Continued success in Fine Art sales is expected from the auction of landscapes by German Max Clarenbach (1880-1953), California's Roger Kuntz (1926-1975), Warren Rollins of the Santa Fe art colony, and Charles Henry Gifford, whose 19th Century "Ocean Scene" exemplifies the marine painting genre. "Fairy" by acclaimed Spanish painter Mariano (Marià) Fortuny (1838-1874) is another highlight.
Collectors of Asian art will find famille rose porcelains, cloisonné enamel pieces, and fine Korean metal boxes with decorative silver overlay as well as Chinese silver miniatures from the Republic Period. In jewelry, the spotlight is on vintage brooches. Diamond rings will be offered in a wide range of prices. Gold bangles and fancy link chains, a silver concha belt and squash blossom necklace, and gold pocket watches are in the sale. Furniture lots range from antique English to mid-century modern. Bronze sculpture, stained glass lamps and decorative objects from many different places and periods await bids. Fine guitars, banjos and more will also be offered.
