Annual Spring Live Public Fine Art Auction

SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS is holding it’s Annual Spring Live Public Art Auction to take place on June 11th at 1pm at Bergamot Station Arts Center. The sale features the work of both mid-career and established artists of all mediums including modern and contemporary photography, painting, sculpture, drawing, multiples and prints. Highlights from this sale include a 1983 pastel drawing by James Rosenquist entitled 2 New Clear Women and a dramatic edge-painting canvas dating from 1968 by Sam Francis. Featured sculptures include a large, original ceramic by Viola Frey from 1983 and a two-part, aluminum work by Isamu Noguchi entitled Black and Blue from 1980. Included as well are many early pop works, in particular a Roy Lichtenstein piece entitled Crak! and Flowers by Andy Warhol, both published by Leo Castelli in 1964. A large selection of prints will be offered as well including important works by Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, and many others. This year we have a number of pieces that are being de-accessioned from the collections of several prominent Southern California museums including early paintings by Ed Moses and important prints by Rufino Tamayo. Unlike other auction houses, SANTA MONICA AUCTIONS will take significant works for consignment right up until the date of the sale so there are always last-minute surprises. Live previews are ongoing now in our galleries and our catalogue can be viewed online on our website.
