The Mark & Connie Stellinga Collection

We're honored to be able to assist the Stellingas in bringing their important collection to market. It's been a "lifetime together" adventure for them. As you can see from the quality of the pieces, they were serious about their search. In Mark's own words, "As early as 1972, Connie and I began collecting antique typewriters. That was how it all started. We were subsequently exposed to many other fascinating kinds of "stuff." The stuff one unavoidably confronts while browsing through antique shops and hitting the odd flea market. What an education we got! Harvard or Yale would have been the cheaper way to go. 32 years and 1.8 million miles later, we have decided to part with most of our finest pieces and collectibles. The roadmap for our next adventure says that smaller quarters will suffice as I embark upon a full-time career as a poet and novelist. This has always been a dream of mine and Connie feels that dusting fewer pieces of furniture is much easier than keeping up with more than 125. We've hunted in 48 states for nearly as long as we've been married and can suggest nothing more gratifying than to discover, restore, and display a great antique. Our very first piece of antique furniture, a rough old oak secretary / china, pushed a brand new china closet out of the house. That was followed shortly by a whole slew of heirloom quality pieces we purchased new and thought we would have forever. We soon discovered that we found a true sense of comfort in returning home to our "friends" as we slowly filled the house with better and better examples. We met a lot of great people as we collected, and a few rascals. It was very often a real challenge to find those who could and would assist us with our sometimes relatively complicated restoration projects. Those projects usually seemed to take far longer to finish than we were lead to believe. And the price sometimes got out of hand as well. Nevertheless, it has been, for the most part, an absolute BLAST! " So now, what was a BLAST for the Stellingas turns into a BLAST for other collectors. With such an interesting variety and depth in the Stellinga collection, buyers should be able to find something for their collection, whether a beginner or the most advanced. As you look through this selection, keep in mind, 32 years and almost two million miles of travel are assembled right here in one place, at one time, for your buying pleasure. May you be the successful bidder!
