Paperweights Sold by The Art Institute of Chicago
Chicago-based L. H. SELMAN LTD. (located at 410 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago's Fine Arts Building) on behalf of the Art Institute of Chicago, will preside over a landmark auction of close to 400 unique fine art glass paperweights. These artworks have been in the personal collections of some of this city's most important citizenry and over the years the pieces have all made their way into the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The auction is set for Noon on September 17, 2016. It will take place at 900 South Clinton in Chicago, easily reached by car or cab. There is a parking lot adjacent to the building. The doors will open at 10 am, so come and get settled and connect with other collectors. While the weights will be on display, they will not be able to be inspected on the day of the auction, so we ask you to please be certain to make appointments to see and examine the works at the L.H. Selman Gallery at 410 South Michigan. We will be available by appointment Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm, September 6 through September 16.
Bidding will take place by proxy or absentee, in person, by telephone and online. Please be sure to read the terms and conditions of sale, located in the rear of the catalogue listed online. This will be a one-day single event live auction, differing from the standard online auctions many of you know us for. Please do register well in advance! Telephone bids must be received 24 hours ahead of the sale. While we will do our best to accommodate you on the day of the auction, it is strongly advised that you register sooner.
After the sale at 5pm there will be a closing party for the attendees at the Columbia Yacht Club, at the Monroe Street Harbor. Collectors are invited to unwind and mingle from 5 pm to 7 pm with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. We look forward to seeing you and hearing from you.
