Artist Robert Blanchard & Other Estate Goods

We are proud to offer Artist Robert "Bob" Blanchard's works from his estate, along with works by his Artist Daughter Joanne Averill. The works have been stored for many years untouched in their Hudson Valley home, in Stone Ridge, New York. He was an illustrator, working for many years for Disney & Ballantine Books among others. Here are short biographies on them. Robert Blanchard: Robert ?Bob? Blanchard was born in Quincy,MA. in 1914, and grew up in the Massachusetts area. He went to high school at Westboro High and learned to draw at the Worcester Art Museum. During WWII, Bob joined the Coast Guard in California and was later sent to work on films in support of the war effort with Disney. After the war Bob worked as an illustrator and Art Director for several publishing companies in NYC. He worked as Art Director for WDSU radio in New Orleans, LA and for a TV station in FL. Bob eventually returned to NYC where he worked for many years for Ballantine Books and eventually he settled in the Hudson Valley area where he had homes in Rosendale, High Falls and Stone Ridge. Bob painted for many years both while employed and late into his retirement. Bob passed in 1993 leaving his wife Winnie and his daughter Joanne. Joanne Averill: Born in NYC in 1940 as Joanne Blanchard, Joanne moved with her parents, growing up in NYC, CA, LA and FL. Joanne learned much about art from her father and painted and drew throughout her life. In her married life she lived in NYC, NH, and CA. During this time she earned a BA in Economics from Franconia College in New Hampshire and an MA in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara. In 1975, Joanne moved to Vieques PR where she dedicated herself to paining full time. She worked for many years as a technicalwriter in Massachusetts. She then moved to New York in 1992 to help care for her ill father. Later she worked at Bard College for the Levy Economics Institute as a researcher.
