Nearly 400 lots of rare and valuable books from the library of the late Dr. Elmer Belt. Reflecting the doctor's varied interest the collection contains significant works in wide variety of subjects. Early medical and scientific texts, including the first significant scientific treatise to be printed in London, a presentation copy of the account of the the Voyages of the Adventure and the Beagle, inscribed by Captain Robert FitzRoy, and a manuscript transcription of the medical lectures of Dr. William Hunter, delivered in 1762. An illuminated manuscript by Alberto Sangorski. Finely printed books including several of the Ashendene Press Folios, a fine printing on vellum from the De La More press, a large collection of Grabhorn printings, and more. A collection of works by, about, or printed by Benjamin Franklin including a rare edition of his Experiments and Observations on Electricity. Collections of Sir Richard Burton, Sir Winston Churchill, and William Faulkner are also included, along with many other fine books, prints and a small selection of California paintings.
