Born in Limoges, France, in 1948, Thierry Despont was an artist, architect, and interior designer, whose clients have included many of the world’s most elite individuals and institutions.
After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where after six years he obtained his diploma in architecture, he later joined Harvard University, specializing in Urban Planning. In 1981, as a member of the French-American team, he took part in the renovation and restoration of the Statue of Liberty.
As an architect and Master Builder, whose practice was based in New York City with additional offices in London, Los Angeles, Monaco and Paris, Thierry Despont designed and realized the home dreams of some of the world's biggest fortunes, including Bill Gates, CEO of Microsoft, Conrad Black, head of the Hollinger press group, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Michael Douglas, earning recognition from Architectural Digest as "the designer of choice for titans of industry."
In 1996, he was entrusted with the interior renovation of the Getty Center in Los Angeles, as well as some of London's top hotels, such as Claridge's and the Dorchester, and Paris's Crillon, Peninsula and Ritz Hotels.
In 2016, he was ranked by Vanity Fair magazine as the 43rd most influential French entrepreneur in the world. He died in 2023 at the age of 75, at his home in Southampton, New York.
