Fine Summer Antiques Auction

July is a Patriotic month, and Atlanta's Peachtree & Bennett's upcoming July 14th summer auction features some offerings from major contributors to the telling of the American Story. American Archetypes have their foundation in fact, but artists and storytellers have always embellished the spirit they represent: George Washington and the The Founding Fathers, Gilded Age Millionaires building empires in white gloves and top hats, Heroic men fighting for a lost cause, or Glamorous New York Society "It" Girls, are all examples of the stories unique to our nation?s past. Peachtree & Bennett is offering property in their summer auction from several diverse properties and estates that created, contribute, or enhanced these archetypes. One of these is a group of fine 19th century Victorian furnishings original to an expansive Mansion located on the Long Island sound and bearing the unusual if not disturbing name "Firwood". The furnishings were relegated to the attic and upper floors of the Crimmins Mansion as the family?s taste evolved through the years and were left there undisturbed. "Firwood? was purchased in the 1880s by New York City Millionaire John Daniel Crimmins (1844-1917) and his wife Lily Lalor Crimmins (1849-1888). Recognized as St. Patrick?s Cathedral?s greatest benefactor, Mr. Crimmins was a senior contractor at his father?s firm, becoming a partner and later the head of the firm in 1873. This firm played a prominent role in the renovation and construction of what would become known as ?Modern New York City? including Grand Central Terminal. Other outstanding offerings for the Saturday sale include a rare Toulouse Lautrec poster "Harmonie" discovered in basement storage locker of a Park avenue apartment in Manhattan. A pair of fine sterling silver Bucellati Fascist era candelabra, weighing in at 147 Troy ozs, from an important North Carolina estate. Please visit our fully illustrated catalog for other important additions.
