Private Collectors Antiquarian Maps
Continuing the liquidation of a 79-year-old map seller?s private collection. Most items have never been offered in any venue.
Maps from the true 1st edition of S. A. Mitchell?s 1846 New Universal Atlas are featured, including a map of Philadelphia that appears to be a unique variant dated 1836. The 1845 Texas map is a beauty, and is extremely scarce. These maps contain the unique Carey & Hart borders, proving them to be the remarkably scarce, true first editions that are so highly prized.
Exquisitely colored plates from the 1685 and 1719 editions of Allain Mallet?s Description de L?Univers are offered, as well as several maps from the scarce 1860s edition of Cassell?s General Atlas. Present are a number of maps from the ultra-scarce 1833 edition of Anthony Finley?s General Atlas, plus several maps from Mathew Carey?s 1816 atlas and John Cooke?s 1802 atlas, both extremely scarce books.
NOTE: All maps are authentic, antique documents 100 years old or older. Maps are in collectible condition, usually very good or better. All stated sizes refer to the printed image, not the paper.
