Fine Art, Estate Jewelry & Antiques Auction

Featuring important works of art, bronzes, silver, fine estate jewelry, Asian antiques, mid-century furniture, art glass, and more. This auction features property from the Estate of Paul & Jean Hanna, owners of the iconic Hanna House in Stanford, California. The "Honey Comb" Hanna House was designed for the Hanna family by Frank Lloyd Wright. Several lots from the estate were showcased in the January 1963 issue of House Beautiful, dedicated exclusively to the Hanna House. Lots of interest include mid-century modern furniture, hexagonal furniture mirroring the "Honey Comb" Hanna house, and a rare bronze by Ivan Mestrovic of "Job" on pedestal base, sold from the artist's family to Paul & Jean Hanna. The auction also contains several significant works of art including a large, captivating painting by Jules Tavernier, dated 1880, as well as works from David Howard Hitchcock, Granville Redmond, and Jerzy Kossak. Also on offer is a rare H.C. artist copy set of 12 etchings of the Song of Songs of Solomon, each signed by Salvador Dali. The sale also features a historic 1853 California gold rush era maritime presentation speaking trumpet. The Bark Greenpoint left New York Nov. 1852 and arrived in San Francisco on March 10th 1853 after a voyage of 139 days, Captained by Robert McCormack. During a subsequent voyage on August 8th, 1853 while heading South, the Ship John Stuart collided with the Bark Greenpoint near the Chincha Islands, sinking the latter immediately. Due to the heroic actions of 2 nearby ship captains, no lives were lost. In appreciation of their heroic action, Capt. McCormack commissioned two magnificent silver speaking trumpets, one of which is featured in our auction. The second trumpet was presented to British Captain Kennedy of the ship Wallace.
