Americana and Primitives | Fine Art: Day 2

Featuring the Duane Estate Collection: Dr. Thomas and Dr. Julia Duane moved to Bucks County, PA in 1949, developing a passion for collecting early American antiques. Thomas, born in Peoria, IL in 1917, had a family history tied to Ireland and a successful career in medicine, earning degrees from prestigious institutions. Julia, born in Washington, IA in 1917, also had a medical degree and dedicated her skills to pediatrics, including a program for incarcerated women and their children. The Duane's chose Bucks County for its natural beauty and restored a 200-year-old farmhouse with care, furnishing it with authentic antiques. Thomas excelled in ophthalmology and made significant contributions to space flight medicine, receiving accolades for his work. Julia focused on her practice and teaching, while also actively collecting antiques with Thomas. After Thomas passed away from Parkinson's disease, Julia continued to live on the farm until her death. The property, preserved through an agricultural program, remains a natural scenic site in Bucks County. The collection of early American antiques housed on the farm is now being auctioned by Aldefer Auction.
