March 11th. Design highlights include furniture designed by Charles & Ray Eames, Edward Wormley, George Nelson, Torbjorn Afdal, Roger Sprunger, and Bill Lishman. Among the notable artworks are Pablo Picasso?s ?Toros en Vallaurius? linocut and ?Le Sauvetage de la Noyée' etching, as well as pieces by Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein, Roger Shimomura, Peter Max, Victor Vasarely, and Pal Fried. Also offered are a collection of works by celebrated African American artists including Charles Sebree, Leroy Allen, Dean Mitchell, Frank Frazier, Henry Dixon, Pat Rocha, and several original quilts by Sonie Joi Thompson-Ruffin. The auction also includes selections from the estates of local artists and educators Wilbur Niewald and Nick Vaccaro. Wilbur Niewald (1925 ? 2022) was professor emeritus of painting at the Kansas City Art Institute and his work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Selections from his estate include pottery by Ken Ferguson and Victor Babu, two pieces of handmade furniture by the artist, and a pair of original painting easels. Nick Vaccaro (1931 ? 2002) was a professor and chairman of the drawing and painting department at the University of Kansas. As an artist, Vaccaro was the recipient of purchase awards from the San Francisco Museum of Art (1958), the Dallas Museum of Fine Art (1961), and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, and his work has additionally been exhibited in the Nelson Gallery of Art, Oklahoma Arts Center, Wichita Art Museum, and Dallas Museum for Contemporary Arts. Selections from the artist?s estate include 1960s-1980s large-scale abstract expressionist, hard edge, and color field paintings, 1970s sculpture and assemblage, and 1990s collage.
