The Ron Causey Jr. Self Taught Art Collection

Ron Causey Jr. (1960 - 2022) spent his entire adult life dedicated to the arts. He loved the artist and what it meant and took to be an artist. He prided himself in seeking out the less familiar. Following in the footsteps of people like Howard Smith, Ron developed un-breakable relationships with many of the artists in this sale. Ron was one of Benny Carters closest friends and began buying from Benny in 1991 before anyone knew he was painting. Ron let Richard Burnside live with him for almost 2 years in South Carolina, Richard would paint by day in Ron's backyard and of the night he would cat around many times going missing for days at a time before Ron found him layed up in the same 2 or 3 crack houses. Ron would drag him out and let him sleep it off and then Richard would do what he did best... paint. Just recently Ron was living in Florida and went looking for the self-taught artist Herbert Freeman with no luck. Many self-taught artists of the south lost a friend when Ron died. This auction house lost a friend and folk-art teacher. We love you Ron, my family and especially the artists that you patroned over the last 40 years love you and will miss you.
