The Estate of Linda P Heard

Flying Pig Auctions is honored to present The Estate of Linda Peterson Heard: A lifelong personal collection of primitive & country American Antiques. Growing up in Massachusetts, and spending much of her life in New England, Linda Heard was surrounded by the architecture, furniture, and cultural hallmarks of colonial America. Those early experiences informed her eye for authenticity and developed an understanding of the vernacular of simple timeless design. Couple Linda’s degree in interior design with having a mother who was an antique dealer in her own right (Broad Arrow Antiques), it seems only natural that Linda’s passions for early American antiques would be life-long. In Linda’s early professional years, she created Sprig of Thyme Antiques and focused primarily on early painted furniture, but developed rich collections of Shaker boxes, baskets, hog-scrapper candlesticks, hooked rugs, and “make-dos,†the unique artifacts born from broken items repaired out of necessity by early homesteaders. In her home, it was common to hear phrases like, “sweet size and rare form,†when various pieces were described, or how faded well-worn blue paint on a corner cupboard inspired her. In the latter half of Linda’s life, her taste moved further towards more primitive examples of early American life. From folk-style scare crows to homespun fabrics, and the relationship of dried herbs and flowers to the early American kitchen, Linda created an extraordinary and unique world that any visitor could easily get lost in, feeling transported to another time. Linda Heard died in the spring of 2021, and beyond the extraordinary collections of antiques she gathered over the course of her life, she left an indelible mark upon a corner of the antiquing world through her warmth, care, and welcoming nature. Save the date! This is one every country antique & primitive dealer/collector will want to see!
