Spring Western and Historical Americana

Cowan's Spring 2009 Western and Historical Americana Auction will offer more than 800 lots of historical photographs, manuscripts, autographs and historical relics and more from the American West and the Civil War. Highlights include several important images of George Armstrong Custer, as well as a half plate ambrotype of a Pony Express stop and post office, and two well-preserved volumes of History of North American Indian Tribes. We are also offering the massive personal archive of Major General Thomas H. Ruger (1833-1907), whose military career spanned nearly 40 years. Collections this extensive and complete do not come on the market very often. In addition, the Western Americana collection of Thomas Minckler features images and ephemera of cowboys, Indians, soldiers, miners, outlaws and lawmen, as well as freighters, post traders, and stagecoach companies, including Wells, Fargo.
