The January 26 auction will offer important English and Continental furniture and decorations, including over 100 lots of Old Master paintings and drawings, as well as Georgian silver, sculpture, clocks, chandeliers, sconces, tapestries, rugs and Asian works of art. Highlighting the auction are two single owner collections --The Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Howard K. Smith and Porcelain and Glass from The Jindrich Waldes Collection. Highlighting the Smith Collection are an Elizabeth I four poster bed (lot 1215), a Commonwealth oak chest dated 1654 (lot 1225), a William and Mary tall case clock by Peter Garon of London (lot 1194), a George IV dining table attributed to Gillows of Lancaster (lot 1246), and a set of twelve Regency dining chairs (lot 1252). Highlighting the property in The Waldes Collection formerly from the royal collections of Augustus the Strong are a diminutive Kakiemon teapot (lot 1423), a Kakiemon hexagonal teapot (lot 1425), and a Kakiemon dish of the Edo Period (lot 1424), among almost 20 porcelain lots with Johanneum inventory marks. Leading the Old Master Paintings are a portrait of Philippe, Duc D’Orleans, Regent to Louis XV, and his Mistress, the noted Madame de Parabere, as Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden by Jean-Baptiste Santerre (lot 1137) and Fête in Naples on the Occasion of the Marriage of the King to the Arch Duchess Maria Carolina of Austria in 1768 by Pietro Fabris (lot 1118).
