Cabinet Curiosities: One Owner Sale

Among the highlights are a Dorothy C. Thorpe ice bucket, a grouping of Maori jade, and an 18th-century Italian marble statue of Santa Marina. Paintings include works by Donald Teague, James Gleeson, Carlo Grubacs, and Hugo de Fitchner. The sale's intriguing antiquities feature a terra cotta head and statue, a phyxis, 18 ancient bronze arrows and spear points, and an Etruscan plate. From Asia are Japanese items including a porcelain platter, Mongolian bowls, an Indonesian keris and knife, and a katar from India. From Europe are numerous snuff boxes from the 18th-19th centuries; a Majolica pitcher and platter; a Lalique box; Murano dancers; a crystal poudreuse set; porcelain items including a mermaid jar, sphynx, and Royal Vienna inkwell; four busts from the 1700s; a 19th-century obelisk; Sèvres serving bowls; and more. Wooden items include miniature chests, and carved bowls, a rosary, a duck decoy, and phalluses. Also offered are an extensive selection of sterling silver tableware from Garrard and Tiffany, nautical dioramas, a painted conch shell, miniature chests, cast bronze statues, a Van Briggle pot, Russian boxes, brass candlesticks, and early photographs of San Francisco and Yosemite.
