Prehistoric and Historic Artifact Auction
We were very pleased to offer one of the last vestiges of artifacts from the iconic Earl Townsend Collection. Straight from the Townsend family are nearly 100 lots of classic Townsend relics. This offering includes the well known Westhavener Figurines (found 1896), a very rare Flint Bannerstone documented in Knoblock?s 1937 Bannerstone Book, along with dozens of fine Flint Spears, colorful points and much, much more. Earl?s collection of Historic Native American Artifacts will be presented in this sale. He acquired these older historic pieces from Phillip Schupp in 1950. A fully beaded Papoose Carrier and rare Beaded Breastplate highlight this offering. Something for everyone, including the interesting relics from the small chest of drawers from Earl?s relic room. Lost treasures from the Townsend Collection! All Townsend Relics are identified with the words "Earl Townsend" at the end of the title and description.
This sale also includes the collection of Ken Seals. This phenomenal collection was found by the Seals family almost 50 years ago. It includes some of the finest Charmstone Plummets we?ve seen. Ken documented many of his Charmstones in Contributions to Tulare Lake Archaeology II (1993). The Seals Collection includes rare Flint Crescents, Obsidian Paleo Points and a variety of Points made from exotic materials.
Many of the artifacts in this auction were once in great old collections. Frank Morast, Sr.?s Snapping Turtle Effigy Bottle highlights the sale. There are also a number of Clovis Points and Dovetails from the old Buddy Scheidegger Collection. A Townsend Quartz Hourglass Bannerstone (Bannerstone Book) and eight Clem Caldwell Cahokia Points further highlight the items in this sale.
Don't miss this opportunity to add a fine artifact to your collection.
