Firearms, Dinosaur Bones, Art, Native Americn

This sale features the sixth and final installment of firearms and militaria from the estate of a prominent Civil War collector in Upstate New York, plus significant additional offerings of natural history specimens, fine art, coins, and other desirable material from multiple consignors nationwide. Firearms of note include a Colt Single Action Army revolver dated 1874, a Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Model revolver, a Parker Trojan shotgun, and a M1 semi-automatic carbine. Many of the natural history specimens in this sale are fresh to market, having been found by the consignor on private lands in the Western and Southern United States during the 1960s. These include a well-preserved dinosaur limb bone, a wooly mammoth tooth, a complete Eocene Age turtle fossil, and several large uncut tiger eye gemstones. These remarkable discoveries were identified and cataloged in collaboration with the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI), which will receive a portion of the proceeds of this sale. Among the fine art offerings in this sale are a series of stone sculptures by the noted Iroquois artist Joseph Jacobs, a suite of large-scale lithographs by modern master Alexander Calder, several original Currier & Ives lithographs, and an original drawing by the Parisian caricaturist Aldred Le Petit. Coins include numerous ancient Greek, Macedonian, Ottoman, and Byzantine examples. Numismatic collectors will also take interest in the assortment of nineteeth- and early twentieth-century military medals from the British Empire. Other lots worthy of special mention are a 1977 Fender Stratocaster, an antique apothecary chest, a fourteen-karat gold and tanzanite ring, and a baseball signed by the 1959 San Francisco Giants.
