The Private Collection of Rita Neuman
Property from the private collection of renowned Los Angeles antiquarian Rita Neuman comprises this sale of fine Continental furniture, art and decorative objects from her own home, the culmination of Ms. Neuman's remarkable career spanning nearly 70 years. Rita Neuman's focus was on 19th century French pieces in the style of Louis XV and XVI. Leading highlights are a Zwiener Jansen cabinet, a rare pair of Napoleon III porcelain mounted bookcase cabinets, and a bureau plat by Parisian cabinetmaker Paul Sormani. Gustave Doré's "La Défense Nationale" is among the bronze sculptures. Fine porcelains include jardinères by Sevres.
Paintings include a charming female portrait by Gustave Jean Jacquet (1846-1909); "The Presentation," a ceremonial scene by Sinibaldo Tordi (1876-1955); and "The Arrival," a large tableau of elegant figures at a reflecting pool, by Edward Harrison May (1824-1887).
