This catalog features the third session of rare and desirable arms and militaria from the estate of a prominent Civil War collector plus select material from other consignors. Central to the Civil War collection is a veritable arsenal of over 150 antique firearms and edged weapons , over 30 of which are offered in this sale. Of particular note is a Confederate foot artillery sword with a CS star mark, a D-guard Bowie knife with letter of authenticity from author Lee Hadaway, and a Model 1872 Winchester. Numerous other interesting Civil War era items will also be showcased, including a mahogany traveling lap desk, an infantry backpack, an identified campaign medal, a bullseye canteen, and a leather cartridge box. Fine and decorative artwork in this session include Webber's monumental engraving depicting the death of Captain Cook, a suite of original albumen photographs from George N. Barnard's important "Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign," a very fine oil portrait of sea captain Jeremiah Martin, a trio of contemporary Inuit stone carvings, and a collection of early 19th century Santos statues. Other offerings include designer mid-century modern furnishings, fishing rods, and Victorian glassware.
