March 11 - Estate Auction
Exciting estate furniture, jewelry, silver and paintings will lead collectors to Michaan's in March. The fabulous 1960s etched brass Chinoiserie coffee table by Philip and Kelvin Laverne is a top highlight, as are the period trestle keyhole refectory table and pair of slat-back armchairs by Stickley. Estate jewelry features Art Deco treasures including the unusual round-faced vintage Deco watch from Longines and additional ladies' wristwatches by Rolex, Bulgari, Chopard, Cartier and Tiffany & Co. Native American jewelry will also be a focus, with several lots by designers Tom Singer and Bob Stringer. Silver collectibles from China and Tibet are among the many Asian Art lots, where bidders will find the beautiful articulated dragon made of enamel and silver and several lovely silver gilt Chinese toilette items embellished with gemstones and enamel. The unusual Lingbi scholar's rock presents another fine opportunity for collectors. Very special Early American silver will be offered in March: the handsome Grecian-style teapot by James Black of Philadelphia, and the exquisite octagonal sugar box, from E. Stebbins & Co., engraved with images of tall ships and other elegant flourishes. Art Nouveau collectors will find the cameo vase, depicting a primeval forest scene, by iconic art glass designer Emile Gallé. Additional French finds include the Fauvist painting "Ship in Harbor," attributed to Albert Marquet, and the Mid-Century Modern tempera abstract by Jean Deyrolle. American fine art works range from "Cows in Field," the California landscape by William Keith, a friend of John Muir, to Gayle Blair Tate's contemporary trompe l'oeil painting, "American Icons." A portrait by illustrator Harrison Fisher celebrates the elegant American woman of the early 1900s.
