I purchased the pictured items. I purchased the centerpiece bowl for $80 USD + buyer's premium. Then approximately 1-1/2 weeks later I saw exactly the same bowl on another auctioneer's site which was sold for $10 USD. My fault for not doing my research as the bowl listing did describe it as listed. But my greater disappointment lies with the Dallas auctioneer who overinflated the value of said bowl. I am not sure if the two Kandinsky sketchbook pages are authentic (I paid $800@ + buyer's premium. } But they will be authenticated and appraised and hopefully I can inform future bidders if these were authentic and worth the almost $2K that was paid for them. I would advise any bidder to look at the "terms" before purchasing any items via LiveAuctioneers. There are usually no "implied warranties" or guarantees as far as authenticity, provenance and value. Admittedly, I did not contact this vendor before the listings ended. In my experience, when I did this, it was a waste of time because the answer was usually that their was no guarantee as to value, origin, and authenticity. The biggest complaint that I have about LA is the buyer's commission. If this 15-30 % commission is going to LA or even to the auction house-to support their overhead-that is understandable. I recently made a trip to Fl. to pick-up some won auction lots and was surprised to find out that the "auction house" was in a rented space in a large warehouse which housed artists 'studios. Some "auction houses" are located in the sellers' lofts or domiciles. Usually, if there is no preview available, this is the case. Finally, I want to say that as a dealer, I have spent thousands of $with LA. I would say that I have been happy with about 60 % of the transactions-and my recommendation would be to do your due diligence on researching your auction house, their offerings and the auction house's expertise. This is the second or third time I've purchased art work from Preston Hall. Ernest is so helpful and knowledgeable and honest in his assessments; he is a joy to deal with. They get great items and often you can get them at very reasonable price tags. I always look forward to seeing what's included in their auctions. I also like it that with works on paper, they typically take the items out of the frame and ship unframed in glassine envelopes. Ernest will absolutely research provenance questions for you as best as he can before the auction if you ask.
