Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit and Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful pair of West Mexican pottery vessels presenting spiny exteriors: a larger Nayarit jar on a rounded base with applied nodule-like spikes and thick, vertical stripes of white pigment and a more petite, mold-made Colima squash effigy bottle with walls of jutting spikes, a tubular spout, and a concave base. Size of larger (Nayarit): 5.5" W x 4.3" H (14 cm x 10.9 cm)
Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Both have been professionally repaired with restoration over break lines; all done very well and difficult to notice. Light surface wear throughout, but otherwise both have nice presentations with good pigments.
