Rufus Roberts (NC, 1897-1954), Published Bluebill
Churches Island, North Carolina, circa 1920, carved and painted wood, published on page 171 of Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen.
Length 17 in.
Roberts made some well shaped redheads and blackheads that are extremely collectible. His decoys always exhibited a share chine line in the body. According to Mr. Andresen, this was his finest Rufus Roberts diver decoy.
Formerly in the collection of Lynne Garrison, Apex, North Carolina. Mrs. Garrison was an important early collector of southern decoys. Her trail blazing efforts left an important impact in the decoy collecting community.
