A Pair of Comanche Beaded Buffalo Hide Saddle Bags c. 1875 buffalo hide, red wool trade cloth, glass seed beads, sinew, thread; plastic and metal wall mount This lot is accompanied by the book listed below in which the author writes, "Comanche material is scarce, due in part to the destruction of large portions of their property by U.S. troops in the last quarter of the 19th century. The saddlebags attributed to this tribe are quite distinctive (Figures 6-14 and 6-15). The buffalo hide is tanned to a soft texture and light color, and the seed beads are arranged in a checkerboard (transverse) and a triangular (vertical) design, respectively.
