Item Details
Description
Late 19th century, ex: Sir Cecil Armitage Collection. Brass, 1 ¼” width swelling to 1 ½” at the middle. Hand chiseled overall in bands and panels of stipple, line work and basket weave. Circular form 4 ½” diameter, made to fit a bicep of that size or larger. The ends pierced for leather securing thongs. Excellent preservation with crisp detail. These arm torques are well represented in illustrations and early photographs but evidently have a very small survival rate. This is the first we have seen.
