This painting remained unlocated after its sale in 1995 until it recently came to light. We are grateful to Alex Kidson for confirming its authenticity and its date of 1789-92. The correct identity of the sitter remains unknown at present.
Glue relined. Some flattening of the paint surface. Scattered areas of restoration on the lady's dress; shadows and contours reinforced. A few touches elsewhere.
