Recording his mission to the Shah of Persia in 1626-29, the illustrations depict Persian monarchs, native inhabitants, maps, "exotic" flora and fauna (including the Dodo bird), fantastic sea creatures, and a chapter on 'that Continent now call'd America' - as well as a Persian-English language glossary. Provenance: armorial bookplate of John Rolle, 1st Baron Rolle (1750-1842), a British peer and MP, whose violent attacks on the policies of Edmund Burke and Charles James Fox led to hsi satirisation in the Rolliad.
