Description
A Vivienne Westwood SEX Boutique cardigan, worn by Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols and the Rich Kids, c. 1978.
The blue, red, and green tartan cardigan features contrasting plaid fabric details, silver-tone hardware, and button-closure sleeve cuffs. Label has been removed by the consignor. No size present. Please note: holes from age and use.
After leaving the Sex Pistols Glen Matlock formed a new group, The Rich Kids, the cardigan was kept by him and allegedly worn during a Rich Kids performance that took place at Unity Hall, Wakefield, England on February 3, 1978.
Accompanied by a letter from the original recipient of the cardigan that reads: "I attended a concert at Unity Hall, in Wakefield in 1978, by the Rich Kids. I stayed behind after the gig was over and the Rich Kids had left the venue, I found Glen Matlock’s mohair jacket on the stage. The jacket is illustrated in the pictures above. The mohair jacket did have the original tag from the Sex shop which was owned by Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood, I unfortunately removed this."
Includes a copy of the book Sex Pistols File which includes a photo of Matlock wearing the cardigan, as well as lead singer Johnny Rotten wearing it.
