Sectioned views of a galley and a sailing ship, 1769. Engraving by Benard after Goussier from drawings by Belin, naval engineer, showing lengthwise elevations of two ships. From "Marine", a work on ships and shipbuilding, by Denis Diderot (1713-1784), published in Paris in 1765, an excerpt from "Encyclopedie, ou Dictionnaire Raisonne des Sciences, des Arts et des Metiers", edited by Diderot and Jean d"Alembert (1717-1783). In modern mahogany molded frame, matted under glass, OS: 21 1/2" x 23", SS: 14 1/2" x 26", folded, as issued. Foxed.
