As an annotation to Viti Theodori Norimbergensis, Psalterium Davidis carmine redditum per Eobanum Hessum, quae commentarij vice esse possunt London, Excudebat Thomas Vautrollerius; 1575 title with elaborate initials, head and tail pieces, and a woodcut printer's device; trimmed at top and outer margins; minimal damage. rebacked, worn sheepskin binding with a contemporary spine This translation from Latin verse, by German poet and Lutheran humanist Eobanus Hessus, was published in its first London edition. At auction, it is uncommon. 376 pages, 3 by 4 3/4" in size. French Huguenot immigrant Thomas Vautrollier, often known as Vautroullier, was a printer in England and temporarily in Scotland until his death in 1587. Around the start of Elizabeth I's reign (1558), Vautrollier left Paris or Rouen and immigrated to London. On March 9, 1562, he received letters of denization. On October 2, 1564, he was accepted as a brother of the Stationers' Company. Until 1570, when he opened a press in Blackfriars, he most likely served as a printer's servant.
