A Black-and-Gold Lacquer Four-Case Inro
Edo period (1615-1868), early 19th century
The vertical rounded rectangular body with a roiro ground shading to nashiji, lacquered in several shades of gold, silver and brown togidashi maki-e with a continuous design alluding to the Noh play Takasago, depicting on one side Jo and Uba with their respective attributes of a rake and broom cleaning beneath a pine tree shown on the reverse, the interior of black lacquer; signed on the base in gold hiramaki-e Moei with a seal Moei. 8cm x 6.7cm (3 1/8in x 2 5/8in).
