Two candid shots of the California frontier on Independence Day. The top image shows a gathering crowd amid saloons and other hastily built wood structures reminiscent of classic gold rush boomtowns, likely for the imminent rodeo. A mix of horse-drawn carriages and automobiles emphasizes the rapidly changing nature of the California countryside in the early 20th century.
