Description
1891 1ed Indian Horrors Native American Massacres Sitting Bull Legends Tribes
Henry Northrops “Indian Horrors” is a heavily biased account of warfare and relationships between Native American Indian tribes and the White settlers from the early 17th-century through the end of the 19th-century. The book appears to have been published shortly after the Battle (or massacre) of Wounded Knee. Commentary provided details of torture, murder, scalping, rape, battles, massacres, and more. Northrop also includes ideas on how to “civilize the savages” and change their customs, culture, and military approach.
Northrop himself states in the preface of this work:
“This work embraces a full account of all the memorable Indian wars in the United States, together with a record of terrible personal encounters with the Red Men, hairbreadth escapes, thrilling captures, and bloody massacres.”
