Description
JFK New York Birthday Salute Invitation, Where Marilyn Monroe Sang
1p, measuring 6" x 9", New York, dated May 19, [1962]. A printed invitation for New York's Birthday Salute to President Kennedy. The invite details special performances by Jack Benny, Maria Callas, Diahann Carroll, Ella FitzGerald, and most notably, Marilyn Monroe. Tickets for the event could be purchased with donations of $10, $25, or $100, and the invitation has a blank donation form at the bottom. With a flattened fold at the center, along with light edge wear. Very fine overall.
President John F. Kennedy’s birthday celebration was an All-Star gala held in New York’s Madison Square Garden ten days before his actual birthday. The event was sponsored by Democratic Committee and Citizens for Kennedy as a fundraiser to erase debt incurred in the 1960 presidential election. However, the night is best remembered because of Marilyn Monroe's famous rendition of “Happy Birthday” sung to the president. This would also be only a few months before Monroe's untimely death.
