Switchman Hand Lantern

John Date was established in 1853 in Montreal Canada. Mr. Date was a master coppersmith and brass founder, among other skills. It is unknown when his first helmet was made, but it was likely, based on

SHEET-IRON AND HORN HAND LANTERN / LANTHORNE, circular form with strap ring handle above the conical top fitted with three dormer-like vents, body set with four horn panes. Old black-painted surface.

19th c. Revere Style Toleware Candle Lantern, with hand painted floral decoration, pierced top, 6" high, 3 3/4" x 2 1/4". Paint losses.
